It was created organically by Twitter users as a way to categorize messages. Whereas, for social network “Facebook”, Hashtags (#) turn topics and phrases into clickable links in your posts on your personal timeline or Page. Generally, term / phrase which contains hashtag (#) has been referred as “hashtag”. Popular hashtags on social networks turn to be trending topics.

Which networks use hashtags (#)? Currently most of the popular networks like Twitter, Google+, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Tumblr, and YouTube have implemented the hashtags ecosystem while professional networking platform “LinkedIn” is yet to come up on this front.
